Saving PDF Files


Adobe Creative Suite Settings

When using the Adobe Creative Suite with Adobe Acrobat Standard or Professional, please select the PDF preset for "High Quality Print". You should not need to change any of the default settings, but here is a review of what to look for:

1. General Panel

From the Adobe PDF Preset pulldown, choose "High Quality Print".

2. Compression Panel

Check that the first box for each image type's pixels per inch says "300". The second pixels per inch box ("for images above") should say "450".

3. Output Panel

Check that Color Conversion is set to "No Color Conversion" and Profile Inclusion Policy is set to "Include Tagged Source Profiles".

4. Advanced Tab

The Subset fonts when percent of characters...box should say "100%". All OPI boxes should be unchecked.

Using these default "High Print Quality" settings will result in a high quality PDF file that will look good when printed.

Other Program Settings

When using programs other than an Adobe program, such as Microsoft Word or Publisher, you'll use the Print to PDF option.

1. Select Print.

Select "Print" from the program's File menu. The Print options window will appear.

2. Select Adobe PDF.

From the list of available printers, select "Adobe PDF".

3. Edit PDF Properties.

In the previous window, click the Properties button to edit the properties of the PDF output file. This will open the Adobe PDF Document Properties window.

In the Default Settings menu, select "High Quality Print". Then click the Edit... button to further adjust the settings.

4. Adjust Font Settings

Click the Fonts folder to edit settings for font embedding.

Then just click OK, then OK again in the Print options window to save your PDF file. You will be prompted to name the file and choose a file location.
