Color Matching FAQ

Here you'll find a list of frequently asked questions (FAQ) about color matching. Click on a question below to jump to the answer on this page. For other FAQ's by category, see our Help & FAQ's page.

Q: Do you guarantee accurate color matching?

A: We aim for accurate, pleasing color on every color printing job that we do. However, each of our color copiers varies somewhat in it's reproduction of colors. Also, our computer monitors will vary in their display of color from your computer's monitor. Therefore, we can not guarantee exact color matching, especially if we have only a digital file to with which to work.

Q: I placed a reorder, and my prints do not match the originals. Why?

A: As stated in the above question, our color printers vary slightly in their color reproduction. So if we print a reorder job on a different printer than your last job, the colors will likely vary slightly. If it is crucial that colors match across job reorders, please let us know.

Q: What if I need a specific color printed?

A: Please let us know if it is critical for us to match to a certain color or colors (for example, in a logo or company colors). To do so, we will need a sample to which we can match the color. This can be something we previously printed for you, a fabric swatch, an item with your color(s) on it, or an original hard copy print.

For the most accurate color matching, you can specify a Pantone color for us to match to. If you do not have to access to a Pantone color book, we have one available for you to view.

Q: What is a Pantone color?

A: Pantone is a color matching system used in the graphic arts and printing field. The company produces swatch books with numbered colors, which allows artists, designers, printers, and customers to communicate colors with a standardized system. We can better match to a specific color when printing if you specify a Pantone color or colors for us to match to. If you do not have to access to a Pantone color book, we have one available for you to view.

There are multiple Pantone color books available, depending on the printing process that will be used to reproduce the colors. We use the Pantone Solid Uncoated and Solid Coated color books. If your final product will be printed on a matte paper, use the Uncoated colors. If the final product will be printed on gloss paper, the Coated colors better simulate the look of colors printed on gloss paper.
